90-minute Introduction to Songwriting

Ever wanted to try your hand at songwriting but didn't know where to start? By the end of this workshop, you'll have the tools you need to write your own song. You will also work in a group to put your knowledge into action. All levels. No prior music theory required.
4 Week Songwriting Workshop: Level 1 Foundations (Online)

The aim of this workshop is to walk away with a completed song!
This is a four-week workshop made up of 4 x 3hr lessons. Each week we'll go deep into an aspect of songwriting. Week 1 will comprise of lyrics and song structure, Week 2 Chord Progressions/Turnarounds/Structure, Week 3 will be melody and rhythm. Week 4 participants will workshop their songs with support from the group.
There are no prerequisites for this workshop but it is recommended that you play an instrument and have a basic understanding of music theory.
Participants will have their own FB group where they are encouraged to upload their finished song.
4 Week Songwriting Workshop: Level 2 (Online)

The aim of this workshop is to walk away with 3 completed songs and the skills to continue working on refining those songs!
This workshop is for more experienced songwriters OR songwriters wishing to continue on their journey after the Foundations workshop.
This four-week workshop is made up of 4 x 3hr lessons. Week 1 will take a look at techniques that you can use to improve your existing original songs. Week 2, 3, and 4 will be 'live writing' workshops where you will write a song during your two-hour session. This will be a 'paint by number' approach where you will be given various tasks ie. a rhyme scheme, a turnaround, and a topic or title to work with. You will then be guided through the process. Participants can continue to work on the songs during the week.
Participants will have their own FB group where they are encouraged to upload their finished songs.
4 Week Songwriting Workshop: Level 3 (Online)

The aim of this workshop is to walk away with a completed song and walk away with a more in-depth knowledge of chord progressions, melody, and lyrics.
This workshop is for more experienced songwriters OR songwriters wishing to continue on their journey after the Level 1 & 2 workshop.
This four-week workshop is made up of 4 x 3hr lessons.
Week 1 will focus on chord progressions and 'stepping' outside of the regular turnaround progressions.
Week 2 will focus on melody creation techniques
Week 3 will be a more in-depth look at lyric writing
Week 4 will be for playing your completed song to the group and receiving feedback.
Participants will have their own FB group where they are encouraged to upload their finished songs.
4 Week Songwriting Workshop: Level 4 (Online)

The aim of this workshop is to incorporate everything that you have learned so far from levels 1-3. You will be assigned a song for each week that you will bring to the workshop to perform. There will be a 30-minute tutorial each week on a chosen topic (see schedule).
This workshop is for more experienced songwriters OR songwriters wishing to continue on their journey after completing the Levels 1, 2, & 3 workshops.
This four-week workshop is made up of 4 x 2hr lessons.
Week 1 Performance and feedback on your songs. Tutorial: 7th and suspended chords and how to use them.
Week 2 Performance and feedback on your songs. Tutorial: intros and outros
Week 3 Performance and feedback on your songs. Tutorial: reverse engineering songs
Week 4 Performance and feedback on your songs. Tutorial: more on playing 'outside the key'.
